This session will focus on practical strategies for demonstrating the library’s importance to the community. The challenge of demonstrating the library’s contribution, rooted in changing perceptions of the public library, will be discussed. An approach for re-positioning the library to gain support among community leaders and funders will be outlined as will information requirements and methods of assembling and presenting data. While focused on the public library sector, the session is relevant to all libraries and the strategies can be adopted by both large or small institutions. The session will be of interest to library managers and administrators interested in practical and effective strategies for demonstrating the library’s value and successfully communicating this message to politicians, community leaders and funders.
