In 2004, UNB Fredericton Libraries established a formal Staff Training and Development Committee. Its purpose was (and is) “to meet the needs for staff training and development within UNB Libraries including an orientation program for all new staff and ongoing training and development activities and events.” This group has developed a number of initiatives that have been well received by staff, and has provided opportunities for growth and community-building within the library as a workplace. It has also helped to cultivate and maintain excellence in our services to our user community. This session will describe UNB Libraries’ Staff Training and Development Committee goals and accomplishments over the past 4 years, provide examples of efforts to engage staff in ongoing training through a variety of approaches, and reflect on the outcomes of these efforts in fostering a competent and engaged work place.
